My dad taught me how to drive a car when I was still a teenager. I picked the skill up pretty fast, learning everything within a couple of weeks. Well, not really everything, because there is one single aspect of driving a vehicle that I still could not really master, and that’s driving in reverse of backing up.
Perhaps one reason for that is I was born somewhat short of stature, a trait that actually runs in my family. Being that short, I could not really see behind the car that clearly, even when I crane my neck far. There is also the fact that I could not really get a feel of what’s behind me when I back up. I am not really that good at estimating distances behind me. Proof of that is the number of times I have dinged the car when backing up, even when the coast seemed so clear. Then there is that accident a few years ago, when I ran over my son’s dog because I really did not see him as I was backing up. Truth to tell, that accident forced me to find solutions for my reverse driving problems. Thankfully, I quickly found one online, and they’re called reversing sensors.
I bought these devices off the Internet after reading that it promises that they will alert if and when you are close to hitting something while backing up. This has proven to be very handy for me especially when I’m parking public. With these sensors, I can finally park without really having to worry about denting my car or another person’s car ever again.
I also installed a reversing camera for good measure. With this camera, I no longer need to crane my neck as I back up. I just look at the LCD monitor in front of me, and that’s it. No more repeats of that unfortunate accident with the dog.
For the last fourteen years, I have been working for an Internet marketing company. Like most career marketing men, my work is never done at the office. Even if I turn in ten hours a day at the building where I work, I still would need to bring a lot of work home with me.
For now, I content myself with working at the dinner table at home, since my small computer table there simply could not accommodate the documents and work samples and what have you that I have to spread out in front of me. The problem with this is I that have to get up every now and then to check something or type something in my desktop computer, which is a few meters away from the dining table where I work.
Laptops would make my life easier, but I have a personal dislike of laptops, which I won’t be elaborating on here. Eventually, I got frustrated with this back and forth that I have finally decided that I am going to make my own home office.
Well, I would like to call it that, but it could never be a real office, simply because I just don’t have that kind of space at home. What I’m planning to do instead is find a corner where I can put a table that would accommodate both my desktop computer and all my papers and stuff. Thankfully, l shaped desks have already been designed, and they are just perfect for my needs.
The l shaped desk I bought fits snugly into the corner of my living room, which means it saves me a lot of space in my not so big apartment. It also looks nice, as I bought a white one. While the spot is not a real office, I have a little privacy there because I also bought a divider screen. Now I have a home office, however makeshift it may seem to be.
To say that I love music can be considered an understatement. Unlike most people who profess they are music lovers but are actually just fans of one or two genres, I actually love music of all genres. Believe it or not, my iPod is filled with music that will make anyone’s head spin just by looking at the playlists. Name any music genre, and I will certainly have it in my playlist. I basically cover the entire spectrum from classical music from the masters to death metal, which can be as extreme as it can get
Like most real music lovers, I set to music practically anything that I do at home when I’m alone. When I’m doing my chores, I would love to have some dance music one, particularly techno songs that make me thump my feet to the beat as I vacuum around the place or do the dishes. When I’m driving, I always go for heavy metal music, particularly those from the hair band era of the 1980s. When I’m reading a book, a little Mozart or some Strauss helps me concentrate on whatever it is I’m reading. And when I’m with somebody, a little jazz never fails to set the mood up.
Music, indeed, is an indispensable part of my life.
There is a lot to love about my job as a content developer for an internet marketing company. That is basically why I have stayed with it for the past fourteen years, and I intend to do so as long as management will have me.
First off, there is the management. I don’t know about you, but the people running our company are perhaps the smartest people I know. The thing is they’re brilliant at what they do, but they are nowhere near that cliché about bosses being overbearing and overly demanding. In other words, they are not jerks. They actually have a very good rapport with their employees, and manage to make everyone feel that they are not bosses but colleagues. However, don’t get me wrong. Even when they are pretty close to their employees, they would not hesitate to make harsh management decisions when certain personnel commit something grave at work. And that makes me respect them even more.
Another thing that I really appreciate about my job is the fact that we employees are quite spoiled when it comes to office equipment. Believe it or not, most of us have been issued two LCD monitors. Some of us, especially those who do graphic design work, work on three LCD monitors propped up on a triple monitor stand. As for seats, management has made it possible for every single one of us to work while seated on ergonomic computer chairs. And the seats we have are not your normal ergonomic chairs, but the more expensive kneeling ergonomic chairs. What this basically means is that management really takes care of us. Unlike most management types, they actually are concerned about our well-being. Proof of this is the fact that none among us have ever complained of back pain or anything similar.
I like to write, so dear reader you shouldn’t feel obligated to read. I am a one man army. If you find some edutainment value great. If you hate small caps, great. Ok, so there i am, knocking on a door. There is no way he is going to do that. So in the next breathe, after a honey do from his wife, he is doing that. I did, over a period of three years of door knocking, find a client that way. A very nice lady who called me back after about three weeks, and I sold her home. Good job. Except I did not want to do a dual agency but was forced to. I had no other offers, damn!
